Berge Bulk has purchased two more vessels as the Singapore bulker owner continues to expand its fleet.

The latest deals mean the James Marshall-led company has purchased three large bulkers so far this year.

European and US brokers said the company has acquired the 176,000-dwt New Expedition (built 2013), which was built at Japan's Mitsui E&S Group's Chiba yard, for $23m.

Berge Bulk has also bought the 180,000-dwt Xin Tai Hai (built 2011), which the brokers said achieved a price of $21m. The vessel was built at China's Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co.

Berge Bulk does not comment on commercial issues.

The owner of the New Expedition, Hsin Chien Marine, did not respond to requests for comment.

TradeWinds could not obtain comment from China’s Peter Mok and his Vision Ship Management, which controls Xin Tai Hai.

Berge Bulk secured its first sale-and-purchase deal of the year with its January purchase of the 177,000-dwt Unique Carrier (built 2007), paying its owner $11.7m. This bulker is now named Berge Broad Park.

The timing of the purchase appears to be successful, as the Unique Carrier could already be sold at a profit today. The ship is worth some $4m more than when it was purchased, according to data from VesselsValue, a valuation platform.

Berge Bulk has a fleet of 78 bulkers, most of which are capesizes or larger. Its oldest ship is the 384,000-dwt ore carrier Berge Stahl (built 1986).
