Greek shipowner Chandris (Hellas) has reportedly sold the second of four supramax bulkers that it bought at the bottom of the market in March 2016.

The deal shows how far prices have surged in the first half of the year.

Brokers in Greece said the company offloaded the 57,300-dwt Serene Susannah (built 2010) to an undisclosed buyer for close to $15m.

Chandris did not respond to requests for comment on the reports that the ship, which was constructed at China's STX Dalian Shipbuilding, has been sold.

The price tag is much higher than what Chandris reportedly received in December, just before the latest surge in bulker values, when it sold a sistership.

The Serene Lydia (built 2010) went for just $8.5m to EOS Shipping & Trading. It is now trading as Fortune Star.

Chandris picked up the Serene Susannah, Serene Lydia and two sisterships from Trojan Maritime five years ago.

They were estimated to have been worth $8.75m each at the time.

Over the past few years, there have been several reports of Chandris selling the four ships.

For example, in January last year, it was reported that the quartet had gone to a Chinese buyer for an undisclosed price.

Chandris has a fleet of around 30 bulkers, tankers and LNG carriers.

Earlier this year, it signed up for two LR2 tankers at South Korea’s Daehan Shipbuilding at a reported cost of $50m each.

Today these ships are probably worth $55m.
