Greek shipowner Cosmoship Maritime has disposed of a 14-year old-supramax bulker.
US and European shipbrokers said the outfit has sold the 53,000-dwt Archagelos Michael (built 2007) in a deal that will see it pocket a lower-than-expected price.
The ship, which was built at Vietnam's Ha Long Shipyard, fetched $8.2m, the brokers said.
The buyer is not known.
Earlier this month, Sinotrans attained as much as $14.7m for the 53,000-dwt Great Legend (built 2006), which was built at Tsuneishi Shipbuilding in Japan.
Value divide
The deals highlight the value divide between Japanese-built and Vietnamese-built tonnage.
VesselsValue said the Archagelos Michael is worth $10.4m.
Cosmoship Maritime did not respond to requests for comment.
The Greek shipowner had a brief bulker venture with compatriot owner Times Navigation, but the two parted amicably, with Cosmoship taking over the 184,000-dwt Agios Charalambos (built 2003) and the 185,000-dwt Agia Trias (built 2002).
Times Navigation reportedly paid $7m for the Archagelos Michael in October 2015.
But this year the George Fournaris-led Cosmoship Maritime appears to have focused more on the tanker side as it purchased two ageing VLCCs.
In January, the company bought the 309,000-dwt Pantariste (renamed Skip, built 2002) for $23.25m.
In April, the company purchased the 307,000-dwt Eagle Virginia (renamed Fos, built 2002) for $25m.
Cosmoship began its operations in 2018 after Greek peer Bariba, where Fournakis was a senior executive, was wound down.
