d’Amico Dry has sold two of its older panamax bulkers for a combined price of $16.3m, TradeWinds has learned.

The Luciano Bonaso-led owner has sold the 76,469-dwt Medi Baltimore (built 2005) for $8.4 and 75,767-dwt Medi Cagliari (built 2004) for $7.9m.

A spokeswoman for the company confirmed the sales and said the ships were "sold from a fleet renewal perspective".

"We are selling older units to invest in eco ships," she added.

The Japan-built vessels are two of the three oldest in d’Amico’s bulker fleet.

The buyer was not revealed.

d'Amico would appear to be divesting its older, less efficient tonnage - much like Star Bulk Carriers.

As TradeWinds reported earlier today, the New York Stock Exchange-listed Greek owner is in the process of selling one of its oldest vessels, the 52,100-dwt supramax Star Kappa (built 2001), for more than $6m.

This article has been updated with comments from d'Amico Dry, confirming the sale.
