Norden has concluded a successful asset play by selling a kamsarmax bulker it bought three months ago for a huge profit.

The Danish shipping giant has sold out the Hudong-built, 82,000-dwt SBI Zumba (renamed Nord Stellar, built 2016). Brokers in the US and Europe said it fetched $25.5m.

The vessel was purchased from Scorpio Bulkers in December for $20m. Some brokers claim that it has been acquired by Globus Maritime of Greece, but TradeWinds understands this is not the case.

Norden did not respond to requests for comment.

Norden is currently playing an active role in trading bulkers and tankers.

It is less than a month since the Jan Rindbo-led company picked up the 82,300-dwt UWS 2 and UWS3 (both built 2020) from Japanese trading house Mitsui & Co.

The Danish owner paid $27.2m apiece for the kamsarmax bulkers built at China’s Jiangsu Yangzi-Mitsui Shipbuilding.

Norden operates a fleet of close to 500 vessels and has changed its strategy from a traditional shipowner to to an asset-light company with a focus on chartered tonnage.
