Netherlands-based Longship has placed an order for a series of up to eight general cargo ships at Dutch shipbuilder Ship and Steelbuilding (SaS).
The company calls the 6,000-dwt cargo vessels its “state-of-the-art” Pmax Eco Trader series and has placed orders for four confirmed vessels at the Waterhuizen-based yard. It holds options for another four.
Designed by Groot Ship Design, the vessels are designed for highly efficient fuel consumption and will feature advanced eco-friendly technologies, Longship revealed in a LinkedIn post.
“The initiative represents a significant step towards greener maritime operations, reflecting Longship Group’s commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation in the shipping industry.”
“We look forward to the successful completion and launch of these vessels, which will set a new standard for sustainable shipping,” Longship said.
Delivery for the vessels is set to start at the beginning of 2026.
This addition to Longship’s orderbook comes after the company announced the successful delivery of its newest vessel, the Longera, in June.
The Longera is the first of a series of four 8,600-dwt vessels ordered at Turkey’s Atlas Shipyard that feature a hull design and diesel-electric propulsion system that delivers what the company claims is an ultra-low fuel consumption.
The Longera departed on its maiden voyage in August loaded with windmill blades which the company said highlighted the beginning of a new era for Longship in modernising its fleet to ensure a sustainable future.
In February, Longship also expanded its orderbook in partnership with Norwegian shipowner Wagle Chartering for two GS Eco-Freighter 3700 ships at the Groot Ship Yard.
