Greek shipowner Empire Bulkers has sold a modern handysize bulker that it purchased in December 2015.

The 33,000-dwt Galene M (built 2011) has been sold to Turkish owner Densay for $12.5m, sources say.

The Stamatis Molaris-led company bought the vessel as Matsushima Bay for $11.5m.

Empire Bulkers group did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and efforts to reach Densay were not successful.

The Galene M sale marks the latest sale by Empire after an August deal to offload the Oshima-built, 53,000-dwt bulker Ata M (built 2003), which was reportedly sold to an undisclosed buyer for $8m.

The company controls with a fleet of 17 bulkers ranging in size from handysize to post-panamaxes with an average age of eight years.

It has purchased one ship this year, the 76,000-dwt Red Jasmine (built 2006) for $8m in January. Renamed Jasmine A, the Imabari-built ship is now likely worth more than $12m.

Empire was formed in 2013, when the company bought eight modern handysizes built in China between 2009 and 2011.

Alma Maritime, another Molaris company has a fleet of five bulkers and four tankers.
