Eurobulk of Greece has sold a 20-year-old panamax bulker as prices firmed up for vessels of this vintage.
The Aristides Pittas-controlled company has sold the 73,000-dwt Ergina Luck (built 1999) to an undisclosed buyer for $6.5m, European and US brokers said.
Eurobulk did not respond to a request for comment.
The Tsuneishi Shipbuilding-constructed Ergina Luck went through special survey this year, which may explain the price.
Eurobulk bought the ship from British Marine for $10.3m in June 2014, when it was named Excalibur.
Last done deal
Eurobulk has not been active in the sale-and-purchase market for the past two years.
Last month, it was reported that Eurobulk had purchased the 82,000-dwt bulker Yasa Neslihan (built 2005) from Yasa Shipping for some $11.3m. However, the ship is still listed in the Yasa fleet.
The Ergina Luck deal comes as a similar ship, the 75,000-dwt Vitagrace (built 2001), was reported sold by Greek owner Vita Management for the same $6.5m price.
Vita acquired the Tsuneishi-built ship from World Marine in April 2009 for $23.7m, when it was the Yomoshio.
The company, which did its last deal three years ago, did not respond to a request for comment.
