NJ Goulandris company Hydroussa Navigation has reportedly sold one of its kamsarmax bulkers into a rising sale-and-purchase market for such tonnage.
The shipowner has sold 82,000-dwt Magica G (built 2012) to undisclosed Greek buyers for $16m, said shipbrokers in Greece and the US.
Some brokers identified Greece's Moderna Marine Management as the vessel's buyer.
The recently-formed company that already has another kamsarmax purchase under its belt — the acquisition of the 80,300-dwt Asia Opal (built 2011) — amid a move by a number of Greek shipowners to pick up kamsarmax tonnage.
The price tag for the Magic G reflects rising values for bulkers of the ship's characteristics.
The ship's value bottomed out at $14.6m in May 2020, according to estimates from VesselsValue.
The price for the Magic G is in line with the $14.5m that Cido Shipping recently fetched for the older bulker 82,000-dwt Fortune Miracle (built 2009), which was constructed at Oshima Shipbuilding.
Hydroussa purchased the Magica G from compatriot Byzantine Navigation for $19m in 2019.
The STX Offshore & Shipbuilding-constructed Magica G last went through special survey in June 2017.
Hydroussa, which controls the bulkers in the NJ Goulandris stable, did not respond to requests for comment.
Hydroussa is listed with a fleet of 11 bulkers, 10 of which are kamsarmaxes. The fleet has an an average age of 10 years.
NJ Goulandris' tanker unit, Andriaki Shipping, controls nine vessels ranging in size from panamax to VLCC.
