Oslo-listed Jinhui Shipping & Transportation has clinched a third bulker charter in less than a month.

The company said it is bringing in the 61,000-dwt ultramax Xing He Hai (built 2016) for between 20 and 23 months.

Delivery is set for May or June, with the rate set at $16,250 per day, plus an address commission of 3.75%.

Jinhui will pay $9.02m over the minimum period.

The owner is Xinghe Shipping of Singapore.

The Baltic Exchange assesses the smaller supramax class at about $16,400 per day, with the bigger panamaxes at $17,100.

Earlier in April, Jinhui struck a deal to operate its largest bulker so far, as it continues to favour charters instead of newbuildings.

The company said it had fixed the 207,700-dwt newcastlemax True Neptune (built 2017) for between 33 and 36 months, with delivery in the first quarter of 2025.

Charter deals over newbuildings

The Hong Kong-based group said the charterer is Olam Maritime Freight of Singapore.

Jinhui is paying $31,500 per day, with the minimum term costing $26.64m.

And before that, Jinhui agreed to charter the 61,452-dwt ultramax Pacific Lily (built 2016) for up to two years at $16,500 per day.

The operator controls 22 supramaxes and ultramaxes, and is awaiting delivery of two secondhand capesizes of 181,000 dwt and 182,000 dwt, plus a panamax.

The owner has said that because of rising vessel prices, running costs and finance expenses, it is locking in charters to bypass “inflationary pressure”.
