Jinhui Shipping & Transportation has added another supramax bulk carrier to its fleet.

The Oslo-listed Chinese bulker owner on Tuesday said it will spend $15.75m on a 53,350-dwt supramax that was built in 2007 at Shanghai Shipyard in China.

Jinhui identified Tesoro Transport Inc as the seller, which points to the bulker Tesoro. The ship is managed and controlled by AM Nomikos Transworld Maritime of Greece.

The geared supramax will deliver to the buyer between 15 October and 15 December.

Jinhui said its management team considered the purchase price to be "reasonable" and that the acquisition will be funded using cash.

Private deal

The transaction was conducted off-market, according to a source with knowledge of the matter.

Jinhui is understood to be on the hunt specifically for strengthened supramaxes that are suitable for carrying steel coils, making the Tesoro's Diamond 53 design a good fit for the owner.

The shipowner has been active in the sale -and-purchase market this year, picking up seven secondhand bulkers so far.

AM Nomikos has also been active in the S&P market and has been involved in around 15 transactions since the beginning of 2020, half of which have been recent sales.

Its most recent bulker sale was made in early August, when it sold the IHI-built, 55,705-dwt supramax Dory (built 2010) for $17.5m to unnamed Greek interests, according to vessel databases.

Jinhui's 22-vessel fleet comprises two post-panamax bulkers and 20 geared supramaxes.
