Greek owner John Angelicoussis appears ready to clear out his vintage ore carriers.

TradeWinds reported earlier this month that his company Maran Dry Management is to sell its oldest unit, the 246,000-dwt Zhongte (built 1989) for recycling.

Now it appears the company is negotiating the sale of a second ore carrier, the 260,000-dwt Anangel Haili (built 1995).

Vintage sale

European scrap brokers expect this vessel to be sold this week and believe it is likely to fetch $13m to $14m.

The ore carrier was purchased as the tanker Tango for $29m in 2002 and subsequently converted.

Maran did not reply to requests for comment.

As TradeWinds reported, Angelicoussis sold the Zhongte for $15.4m in a deal that included 600 tons of bunkers.

Long-term charters

Some observers are puzzled that the owner has decided to sell the ships now, as none of them are due for special survey until 2022.

One reason could be that the ships have come off long-term charters.

This year, Maran has also sold the 172,000-dwt Anangel Destiny (built 1999) and the 171,000-dwt Anangel Dynasty (built 1999).

With a sale of Zhongte and Anangel Haili, Maran Dry will be left with two vintage carriers, the 277,000-dwt Anangel Shagang (built 1992) and the 276,000-dwt Ore Sudbury (built 1991).
