Greek shipowner John Angelicoussis' Maran Dry Management is disposing of its oldest bulker, sources say.

European brokers say the 246,000-dwt ore carrier Zhongte (built 1989) has gone for scrap.

A price of $426 per ldt, or $15.4m, is being placed on the ship in a sale that includes 600 tonnes of bunkers.

Maran Dry Management declined to comment when contacted by TradeWinds.

The Zhongte is not due for special survey until September 2022.

Maran has three ore carriers built before 2000, the 277,000-dwt Anangel Shagang (built 1992), the 260,000-dwt Anangel Haili (built 1995) and the 276,000-dwt Ore Sudbury (built 1991).

Angelicoussis purchased the Zhongte as the tanker Navix Seibu from MOL for $34.5m in December 2000.

Maran already has offloaded two capesize vessels this year, which are ultimately believed to have been scrapped.

The 172,000-dwt Anangel Destiny (built 1999) went for $432 per ldt in March and the 171,000-dwt Anangel Dynasty (built 1999) was sold for the same price in April.

In other scrap news, Bahri of Saudi Arabia has put another VLCC, the 300,000-dwt Hawtah (built 1996), up for sale.

Offers are to be made this week. The tanker has a significant amount of bunkers onboard. TradeWinds reported last week that Bahri had sold the 300,000-dwt tanker Watban (built 1996) for scrap to India.
