Transocean Maritime Agencies has reportedly sold a panamax at a price that reflects rising values in the sector.
The deal comes amid an active period in the sale-and-purchase market for the Monaco shipowner, which also purchased a four-year-old kamsarmax last month.
Brokers claimed that Transocean has sold the 77,000-dwt Ajax (built 2006), which has been in the company’s fleet since it was new, to an undisclosed buyer for $10.2m.
The ship is due for special survey in May and is equipped with ballast treatment systems (BWS).
The reported price tag is in line with expectations.
In November, Transocean sold a sistership for nearly $1m less, confirming the increase in bulker values since then.
The Apollo was sold to Grehel Shipmanagement of Greece for $9.3m and was renamed Apolo.
Less than a month ago, Transocean reportedly paid $20.6m to little-known Lion Shipping for the 81,000-dwt Cyl (built 2017).
The low-profile company has declined to comment on either of the reported transactions.
The company has been trimming its bulker fleet in recent years, and 11 of its 13 bulkers are kamsarmaxes.
In 2018, Transocean entered the MR tanker segment and now has five of the product carriers.
The last to be acquired was the 46,000-dwt Glenda Meredith (built 2010), which Transocean bought from Italy’s d’Amico Group for $19m last April.
The Monaco-based company was founded by Guenther Neunhoeffer of Germany in the early 1960s.
