Transocean Maritime Agencies has sold a panamax bulker as it continues to trim its bulker fleet.

Brokers said the Monaco-based shipowner has sold the 77,000-dwt Apollo (built 2006). The bulker has gone to a Chinese buyer for $9.3m, which is slightly more than expected.

The Oshima-built ship is due for special survey in January next year.

Transocean declined to comment on reports of the sale.

The company, which has a mixed fleet of tankers and bulkers, has been active in the sale-and-purchase market in the last few years.

The Apollo is one of 12 panamaxes in Transocean's fleet of 14 bulkers. The shipowner has been trimming its bulker fleet in recent years.

In 2019, the company disposed of three panamaxes. The last to go was the 76,000-dwt Achilles (built 2004), which went to little-known Greek shipowner Grehel Shipmanagement in an off-market deal for an undisclosed price in September 2019.

Transocean also has five tankers. In April this year, it bought the Hyundai Mipo-built 46,000-dwt Glenda Meredith (built 2010) from Italy's d’Amico Group, paying $19m.

The sale was confirmed by d’Amico.

The tanker, renamed the Aquarius T, is trading in the Maersk Tankers MR pool.
