Anders Svarrer has exited as the commercial head of bulker operator Union Bulk, which he co-founded.
He is understood to have left before Easter in a shock departure for the Danish operator, of which he was commercial director and a partner.
TradeWinds understands that Svarrer did not leave to join a new company. He did not respond to a request for comment.
Union Bulk managing director and partner Jens Boesen declined to comment on the matter when approached by TradeWinds.
Svarrer and Boesen co-founded Union Bulk in March 2019 with Thomas Nielsen, another colleague from TKB Shipping.
Svarrer owns 30% of the company and sits with Boesen on the board of directors, along with chairman Gert Fisker Tomczyk, according to financial filings.
Boesen did not comment on if and how this would change following his colleague’s departure.
Union Bulk focuses primarily on the handysize and handymax segments and typically operates a fleet of 15 to 25 vessels.
In November, the Hellerup-based operator also became a shipowner when it purchased the 28,400-dwt handysize bulker Hinase (built 2011) from Shinto Kisen of Japan. It had previously had the vessel on long-term charter.
Svarrer was the administrative director of and is a shareholder in Hinase ApS, the registered owner of the ship. But he resigned from the single-purpose company on 26 March this year and was replaced by Boesen.
Union Bulk booked a net profit of $3m in its last financial year, which ended on 30 June 2023. This was down from $26.9m a year earlier.
It employed 10 people as of January this year.
