A second suspected Houthi attack on shipping has been reported by UK authorities on Wednesday, just hours after a Delta Tankers suezmax was set on fire in the Red Sea.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations body said a ship’s master had reported two explosions close to the vessel 105 km south of the Yemeni city of Aden.
The crew was reported to be safe and the vessel was heading to its next port of call.
The incident happened just hours after a loaded crude tanker was left adrift in the Red Sea after being struck and damaged in the third Houthi attack targeting a vessel operated by Greece’s Delta Tankers this month.
As TradeWinds reported, the 163,759-dwt Sounion (built 2006) was damaged two hours after being approached by two small craft and attacked with small arms fire in the early hours of Wednesday.
