A handysize container ship has been evacuated after developing a list outside the Port of Kaohsiung in Taiwan.
According to the Taiwan News, the 1,262-teu Angel (built 2003) was anchored 2.8 nautical miles (5.2 km) outside the port when it went into a list after taking on water.
The water ingress is reported to be the result of structural issues.
The vessel issued a distress signal and the crew of 19 were evacuated by the Taiwan Coast Guard on the orders of the Kaohsiung Harbour Bureau.
Tugs are now in attendance and pollution booms have been placed around the ship, which appears to be in a near-fully loaded condition.
One crew member has received medical treatment but no other serious injuries, or pollution, were reported.
Six containers are reported lost from the Angel.
AIS data indicates the vessel has been anchored outside the port since 4 July.
According to the Tokyo MOU on Port State Control inspection database, the Angel is owned by an Azerbaijan-based company called Zulu Shipping and is registered in Palau.
It has not had a port state control inspection since 2018 and is rated as a high-risk ship by the Tokyo MOU.
The Indian Register of Shipping removed class from the vessel in May 2023.
