A grounded bulker has held up traffic on the Parana River all week.
The 82,000-dwt Cassiopeia Ocean (built 2018) ran aground in the river earlier this week southeast of Rosario, sources tell TradeWinds.
Tugs have been attempting to refloat the ship, but have failed, Francisco Venetucci of law firm Venetucci & Associates, said. He said the issue was exacerbated by lack of rain upriver in Brazil, reducing the draught.
The automatic identification system shows Cassiopeia Ocean loaded at Rosario and was destined for Liverpool.
It was the second ship to run aground in the area this week. A bulletin from Argentinian shipbroker NABSA said the 34,000-dwt Mardinik (built 2011) ran aground Sunday, but was refloated.
The Cassiopeia Ocean is owned by Monaco-based MC Shipping, managed by NEOM Maritime and insured by Britannia P&I.
The Mardinik is owned and managed by Greek company Sealestial Navigation and insured by Gard P&I.
It is currently at anchor in Rosario after sailing from Paranagua, Brazil.
