An investigation has begun into why a general cargoship partially capsized at an Indonesian terminal.

Footage showed the 3,300-dwt Mentari Crystal (built 1992) tilted severely to starboard after losing several containers at the Teluk Lamong Terminal on 15 November.

"The current position of activities at Tanjung Perak Port is not disturbed by the sinking of the ship," said Arif Toha, head of Tanjung Perak Port Authority, in a statement on Tuesday.

The ship docked on Sunday morning, but got into difficulty in the evening.

The cause of the accident is not yet known.

The incident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Committee.

Owner Mentari Line of Indonesia has been contacted for comment.

The vessel has no port state control detentions on its record going back to 2000.

VesselsValue estimates the ship's value at $1.23m.
