A Greek supramax bulker has been damaged after hitting a pier in the Dominican Republic.
The 57,000-dwt Dynamic Striker (built 2010) was holed in its bow just above the waterline after the incident at Puerto Plata on Saturday, El Nuevo Diario reported.
Photos showed a corner chunk taken out of the concrete pier and a gash in the bulker’s hull measuring at least a metre by two metres.
The Isle of Man-flag ship had left New Orleans in the US on 21 March and arrived in Puerto Plata on 25 March.
The last AIS update showed the bulker still moored at the port on Sunday.
The port authority said that the incident occurred around midday.
The vessel hit the western tip of the Taino Bay pier.
Port representatives and Mardom, the bulker’s consignee agency, were on site conducting investigations.
Clean port state control record
The supramax is owned by Greek shipowner Victor Restis’ Enterprises Shipping & Trading, based in Athens.
The company has been contacted for further information.
The Dynamic Striker has no port state control detentions on its record.
Insurance is provided by the North of England protection and indemnity (P&I) club.
