A domestic feeder ship has been partly sunk in a collision with a sand carrier off China.
The Yangtse website reported that the 922-teu Xin Yuan Long 6 (built 2021) was involved in the clash with an unnamed vessel in the mouth of the Yongjiang River in the Beilun district of Ningbo City.
The sand carrier sank, while video footage from the scene shows the boxship listing to port as containers litter the sea.
Other boxes lie collapsed and mangled on deck. Water covers much of the bow of the vessel.
The seafarers on board were evacuated and no injuries or pollution were reported.
AIS data shows the vessel had left Ningbo on Monday and was heading for Guishan in China, where it was due on 21 July.
Maritime Bulletin reported that at least 40 containers had gone overboard.
A salvage operation has begun, and search-and-rescue ships and tugs have been brought in.
The 137-metre China-flag ship is owned and operated by Shishi Xinyuanlong Shipping of Fujian. The company could not be contacted.
There are no port state control inspections listed for the unit.
Its insurer is not known.
The Xin Yuan Long 6 is the only ship listed in the fleet of Shishi Xinyuanlong.
