The Houthis have released new footage that shows the moment a sea drone attacked an Ultrapetrol-controlled suezmax tanker in the Red Sea.
The video, distributed on the militant group’s official website, claims to show the attack on the 163,300-dwt tanker Cordelia Moon (built 2013).
It offers a new perspective on the attack a day after the emergence of footage recorded on board the vessel that showed armed guards shooting at the unmanned exploding boat.
In the new footage, a small boat is seen speeding towards a tanker and then exploding. Flames and black smoke billowed out of the side of the ship.
TradeWinds could not immediately authenticate the footage, but it resembles the description of the Cordelia Moon attack.
And it shares similarities to footage posted on Wednesday on the YouTube channel of Campbell University maritime historian Sal Mercogliano, who said it also showed the Cordelia Moon.
The Cordelia Moon was hit by a sea drone at 05:00 GMT on Tuesday, after several failed missile attacks by the Houthis.
The vessel was damaged but its crew was unharmed, and it continued its voyage. Vessel tracking data on Thursday showed it was continuing north in the Red Sea, west of the Saudi Arabian port of Jedda.
Shipping databases show the vessel is controlled by Ultrapetrol Bahamas, which could not be reached for comment.
Equasis lists its registered owner as Amber Shipping, a Panamanian entity, and its manager is India’s Margao Marine Solutions.
The Panama-flagged ship is classed by Bureau Veritas, according to Equasis.
