Hoegh Autoliners is continuing its fleet renewal push, moving on from a vessel with split valuations.
The Oslo car carrier owner announced on Monday that it sold the debt-free 6,500-ceu Hoegh New York (built 2005) for $60.6m.
A buyer was not disclosed, but the company said the vessel will be delivered in the first half of 2025.
“The sale of Hoegh New York presents another good opportunity to further optimize the fleet, as we are
getting more newbuilt vessels delivered,” chief executive Andreas Enger said in a statement.
The sale is the company’s fourth over the last year, as it readies its fleet for the delivery of 12 LNG-fueled newbuildings, several at the end of the series with the capacity to run on ammonia.
The first of the vessels, the 9,100-ceu Hoegh Aurora (built 2024), hit the water in August with the second due for delivery later this month.
Last year, it 6,500-ceu Hoegh Bangkok (built 2007) for $63m to Changjiu Logistics, which renamed the ship the Jiuyang Blossom.
In February, it sold the 6,000-ceu Hoegh Chiba (built 2007) for $61m to Wallenius Lines before coming to a second agreement with Chiangjiu Logistics for the 6,000-ceu Hoegh Kobe (built 2006) for $59m in April.
The Hoegh Chiba deal caused some controversy in the market, with Veson Nautical estimating the ship was worth $72.4m, $11.4m more than it sold for.
This time around, Veson’s VesselsValue platform estimates the Hoegh New York to be worth $65.3m, while MSI Horizon gives a range of $56.6m to $64.8m.
