Taiwan's Evergreen Marine Corp reported a stellar financial performance for the third quarter of its 2021 fiscal year as port congestion woes continue.

The liner giant disclosed accumulated operating revenue between July and September of TWD145bn ($5.16bn), up 45% on the previous quarter.

It was the company's best ever quarterly results, according to local media reports.

Evergreen's revenue for September reached TWD49.1bn ($1.75bn), up 154% from last year's TWD19.3bn but down 1.78% from August.

Its total revenue grew by 135% to TWD335bn during the first nine months of this year, compared with the corresponding period last year.

Last month, Evergreen took delivery of the 24,000-teu Ever Act (built 2021) from Samsung Heavy Industries. It is the second ultra-large containership to join the fleet this year. Sistership the Ever Ace and was delivered by the same shipyard at the end of July.

Analysts said the arrival of the Ever Act will further boost the company's revenue for October.

Evergreen is ranked the seventh-largest liner company in the world. The company recently ordered 24 containership newbuildings at China's CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding that will cost it between $958m and $1.098bn.

The contracted newbuildings are two 1,800-teu vessels, 11 ships of 2,300 teu another 11 of 3,000 teu.

Evergreen said the new ships will be part of its fleet renewal, “with the pursuit of providing better service and improving competitiveness”.

Delivery of these ships is scheduled to take place during 2023 and 2024.
