The company said Bjorn Vang Jensen, Jochen Gutschmidt and David Macleod have joined as vice presidents of advisory services for the global supply chain, and Michael Helweg has been appointed vice president and head of commercial.

With markets booming after recovering from Covid-19 demand hits, the recruitment shows the firm's commitment to using its data and insights to meet rising demand from cargo owners for cost and efficiency optimisation, Sea-Intelligence said.

Biggest day since the beginning

Founder and chief executive Alan Murphy added: "Today is clearly the biggest day for Sea-Intelligence since our founding almost 10 years ago, and I am incredibly excited about the new opportunities we will be able to offer customers globally."

Murphy, previously senior analyst at Maersk Line's intelligence and analysis division, explained the company has spent the last decade building its range of data services.

"But we have previously not had the in-house experience from the cargo owner side of the equation," he added.

He called the new team "industry powerhouses".

"This has always been a volatile industry, but in these exceptionally trying times, competent and experienced expert counsel is now more important than ever," Murphy said.

Vang Jensen brings more than 30 years of experience in global transport.

The Dane led global logistics for Electrolux for nearly 15 years and is also a former Maersk Line man.

Gutschmidt also has three decades of experience in the sector. Since 2011, he has been globally responsible for logistics procurement and global freight at Nestle.

40-year career

David Macleod's career in shipping spans more than 40 years at Nedlloyd, P&O Nedlloyd, and Damco.

For the last 15 years, he been involved in freight management consulting, assisting companies with their contract negotiations and supply chain solutions.

Helweg, another former AP Moller-Maersk man, was previously leading global distribution at GN Hearing.

He was instrumental in integrating German line Hamburg Sud into Maersk in 2017.

Murphy founded the company, originally named Sea-Intel, in January 2011 with Lars Jensen.

There are four other analysts, while the new hires will work with vice president of ports, terminals and shipping lines, Andy Lane, yet another Maersk alumnus.
