The Walt Disney Co has ordered yet another 135,000-gt cruiseship at German cruiseship building specialist Meyer Werft.
Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, made the announcement at the end of last week.
The vessel, which will be delivered in 2023, will be similar to the pair of LNG-fueled cruiseships that Disney ordered at the shipyard in March 2016.
‘We decided two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level with immersive Disney storytelling, world-class family entertainment, and imaginative innovations that are fantastically fun and uniquely Disney. By the time all three new ships are sailing, we’ll have nearly doubled the size of our existing fleet,’ Chapek said.
Launched in 1998, Disney Cruise Line initially operated for more than a decade with just two vessels. Two more ships were added in 2010 and 2012.
The company will operate a fleet of seven ships once all Meyer Werft newbuildings have been delivered.
