Departing XO Shipping chief executive Ejner Bonderup has opened up further about his departure from the Danish company.

TradeWinds reported earlier today Bonderup was leaving the position and would be replaced by two existing executives.

In a subsequent interview Bonderup said he was leaving XO with a very solid and healthy, capital base and now intends to spend more time with his family.

“[I will] give them my full focus,” Bonderup said, noting he has yet to decide where his career will take him next.

Prior to his departure Bonderup and founder Christian Levin had been working to enlarge the capital basis for XO Shipping.

While he had indicated it would be difficult to grow with the present capital base, Bonderup stressed the balance sheet had been strengthened in 2018.

He says he wished to increase the capital base further to support further expansion.

XO Shipping was started by Levin in 2010 and operates 25 to 40 vessels in the handymax to supramax segments, largely in the spot market.
