The Paris MOU port state control organisation has barred a general cargoship from its ports after it was found to be corroded and cracked.

The 2,900-dwt Bellatrix (built 1978) was detained for eight days in Russia's Rostov on Don last month.

This followed two detentions in Turkey earlier this year and in Russia twice before that.

The vessel had 17 deficiencies.

Inspectors found cracked and corroded beams, frames and doors, holed bulkheads through operational damage, and damaged watertight doors.

There was also insufficient pressure in fire pumps and incomplete personal firefighting equipment.

The ship flies the flag of Togo which is black on the current Paris MoU list.

It has been banned for three months.

The vessel is listed as operated by MD Shipping of Ukraine.
