A Diana Shipping subsidiary has inked a $16,000 per day charter with SwissMarine Services.

The Greek dry bulk player said the 179,362-dwt Seattle (built 2011) will head out on Christmas Day for between 16 and 19 months in a deal expected to net the company a total of $7.8m.

The charter is just about at market rates, per the Baltic Exchange's Capesize Index. Friday morning, the weighted timecharter average came out to $15,624 per day after spending much of the week over $17,000.

Of Diana's 48 ship fleet, 14 are capesize vessels. Per Diana's website, with the Seattle's new charter, all 14 are chartered out, with the 179,492-dwt GP Zafirakis (built 2014) currently in an option period.
