Norden has won a three-year contract of affreightment (COA) from Qatar Vinyl Company, which will begin this quarter.

One of the Danish shipowner's supramax bulkers will carry salt cargoes from West Coast India to Qatar about once a month, Norden said.

Around 500,000 tons of salt per year will be carried under the contract for Qatar Petrochemical subsidiary, which will use the salt in chemical production.

“The contract increases our flow of tonnage into the Arabian Gulf, which allows us to further grow our activities in the region, in line with our continued growth plans," said Norden chief executive Jan Rindbo.

Adam Nielsen, who oversees the company's dry-cargo COA business as Norden's head of industrial bulk, said the contract would make operating the company's vessels in the region more efficient.

“With the agreement, we are growing our presence in the Middle Eastern region, enabling us to position vessels across the load and discharge port regions, where they can be deployed to fulfill other contracts," he said.
