Danish bulker giant Norden has signed a fresh charter to keep hold of the only panamax bulker in the fleet of Greek owner Fundador Naviera, brokers say.

Norden has fixed the 75,000-dwt Sasebo Ace (built 2011) for 12 to 14 months, the Baltic Exchange reports.

A rate of $13,250 per day is above the $13,000 per day Norden was previously reported to be paying for the ship.

The contract is in line with the present spot market for such vessels, which the Baltic Exchange placed at $13,125 per day on Wednesday.

Capesize rates fell to $22,404 per day on Wednesday with analysts at Clarksons Platou Securities noting a slip in the pacific and thin cargo lists in the Atlantic.

It said panamaxes fared better, as fixtures remained steady with reportedly improving sentiment for the South American market improving Atlantic rates.
