Pavimar has concluded its first vessel purchase of the year.

The Ismini Panayiotides-led company has bought the 78,000-dwt Japanese-controlled panamax bulker Lake Dahlia (built 2009) for $13.8m, taking its managed fleet to 16 ships.

The Sanoyas Shipbuilding-constructed Lake Dahlia has just passed special survey, which could explain what is seen as a fairly strong price for the vessel.

Some brokers said Pavimar also bought the sistership Triton Gannet (built 2009), but TradeWinds is told this is not the case.

The Greek shipowner has a strong taste for bulkers built in Japan. Two thirds of its ships were built there.

The is the first purchase for Pavimar since October, when the company bought the 74,000-dwt Eisho (built 2012) for a reported price of $18.5m before renaming it Scorpio.

Pavimar has a fleet of seven panamaxes, four kamsarmaxes, four supramaxes and a capesize bulker. One of Pavimar’s vessels, the 76,000-dwt Magic P (built 2004), belongs to bulker vehicle Castor Maritime, which is headed by Ismini’s brother, Petros.

Ismini established Pavimar in the summer of 2014 with an initial fleet of just two supramaxes. Ismini and Petros are children of Greek shipowner Gabriel “Villy” Panayiotides.
