Russia's Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard has clinched another series of dry cargoships from domestic owner Pola Rise.

The United Shipbuilding Corporation yard will build four 8,100-dwt river-sea Project RSD59 vessels for delivery from next January, PortNews reported.

The contract has been signed in conjunction with State Transport Leasing Company (STLC).

The deal follows an order for two 7,500-dwt and two 7,700-dwt vessels delivered to St Petersburg's Pola Rise this year.

The shipowner also has five 7,450-dwt cargoships due from Sredne-Nvesky in Russia this year and next.

According to Mikhail Pershin, acting general director of Krasnoye Sormovo, the new series “will be superior to the previous one”.

“When we were building the fifth dry cargo carrier of the first series the design was improved considerably. An extensive work has been performed with the designer and the customer," he added.

This has resulted in an increase in sea deadweight, achieved through a bigger draft and structural changes introduced in the ship bow design.

The vessels will carry general and containerised cargo, timber, grain, oversized loads cargo and dangerous goods.
