Greek owner Samos Steamship has denied reports it has sold its second supramax bulker within two months at a good price.
US brokers said the Oshima-built, 52,000-dwt semi open-hatch vessel Red Jacket (built 2008) had been sold to an as-yet-undisclosed buyer for more than $14m.
However, Samos director Alexia Inglessis told TradeWinds the ship was not for sale.
Had the ship sold been at the reported price, it would mean the Greek owner would log a decent profit.
Samos purchased the ship from Japan’s Kotobuki Steamship for $10.85m in August 2015.
The price is similar to the $15m the Samos Majesty (built 2009), which is one year younger, fetched from Grieg Star Shipping in August.
That ship, renamed Star Majesty, is currently valued at $11.3m by VesselsValue.
Sale-and-purchase activity
In January, Samos sold the Mitsui-built, 177,000-dwt bulker Kerkis (built 2006) for $22.5m to H Line of South Korea.
The Greek owner paid $11.8m to Celeste Holding of Singapore for the vessel in February 2016.
Samos is listed in industry databases as controlling a mixed fleet of 28 tankers and 12 bulkers with an average age of seven years.
In addition, Samos has an 82,000-dwt bulker on order at Sanoyas Shipbuilding that is set for delivery next year. All its ships have been built in Japan.
