Louis Dreyfus has fixed the 181,100-dwt Seafarer (built 2014) on a four to seven month charter, the Baltic Exchange reports.

A rate of $14,750 per day was placed on the charter which was signed on Thursday as the Baltic Dry Index passed 1,000 points for the first time during 2015.

Thenamaris paid $45m for the cape as a newbuilding in the opening month of 2013, VesselsValue.com says. It prices the bulker at $37.70m today.

Spot rates for capesize bulkers had risen to $13,600 per day on Friday, up by 50% in the past week.

Thenamaris has 13 bulkers in a mixed fleet of 69 trading vessels worth $2.46bn, according to VesselsValue. Its 16 newbuildings are worth a further $991m, the online service says.
