Winning Shipping of Singapore has sold one of its last 1990s built capesize bulkers for scrap, brokers say.

The 185,700-dwt Winning Brother (built 1995) is heading for demolition in Bangladesh, it is claimed.

A price of $445 to $447 per ldt is being placed on the ship, which works out at around $9.6m.

Attempts to reach Winning for comment were unsuccessful at the time of writing this week.

The Winning Brother is the oldest of the 32 capesize bulkers in the company’s fleet, according to VesselsValue. It also has two capes on order for delivery next year.

Winning purchased the Winning Brother in 2013 from Greek owner Transmed for $10.5m as the Noni M.

The company has one other 1990s built cape in its fleet, the 173,000-dwt Winning Joy (built 1999).

Overall VesselsValue prices Winning's live capesize fleet at $849.78m and its overall fleet, including the newbuildings, at $1bn.

Capesize demolition deals have been limited this year as the market shapes for a recovery.

According to data from demolition specialist Edward McIlvaney just nine of the ships have been sold for scrap this year.

The Winning Brother is understood to be just the second capesize scrapped in the second half of 2018.
