Taiwanese shipowner Wisdom Marine has ordered more dry bulk tonnage in Japan, according to a regulatory filing.

The Taipei-listed shipowner said its board had approved orders for two 37,000-dwt bulkers at Imabari Shipbuilding.

The James Lam-led shipowner said it is paying $25m for each of the ships. However, it did not disclose when the ships would be delivered.

In April Wisdom Marine unveiled plans to raise almost TWD 2.19bn ($71m) from the sale of bonds and new shares for fleet expansion, installation of ballast water treatment systems and debt repayments.

The fund raising plans came just days after it said it would order a 38,000-dwt bulker at Namura Shipbuilding for up to $25.5m and a 63,300-dwt bulker at Tsuneishi Shipbuilding for $31m. Those vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2021.

It has also recently ordered a pair of 82,400-dwt bulkers from Japan Marine United (JMU), also for delivery in June 2021.

With the two latest orders it now has a total of 15 bulkers on order, all in Japan, spread across handysize, supramax and panamax segments.

According to Clarksons, Wisdom Marine is the world’s third largest owner of handysize bulkers by the number of ships.
