The Women's International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) International has reactivated WISTA Panama, further growing its presence in South America.
"Panama plays an important and significant role in the global maritime community and we look forward to expanding professional development and business opportunities for Panamanian women in shipping and trading," said WISTA International president Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou.
An average of 44 ships a day cross the Panama Canal, according to WISTA.
The voice of women in shipping has welcomed several other new National WISTA Associations to South America this year, including outlets in Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil.
WISTA Panama, led by president Veronica Valenzuela, joins 44 other WISTA associations worldwide, including WISTA Japan in 2018.
