Farstad Shipping has been awarded a long-term contract for one of its modern construction support vessels.

Total E&P Congo has hired the 9,200-dwt Far Sleipner (built 2015) for 18 months to support its subsea activities in Congo.

The contract will commence in the fourth quarter, and Total has six extension options of two months each.

Karl-Johan Bakken, chief executive of Farstad, said: “Over the last 18 months, Far Sleipner has developed very good relations with Total through the work performed on the MOHO North field development project in Congo.

“We are very pleased to be selected as Total’s preferred partner for the next phase of this project.

“This contract shows the attractiveness of our new series of subsea vessels that meet our clients’ expectations for advanced subsea operations in deep water production developments.”

The Far Sleipner was contracted to work with Technip in West Africa in a deal signed last year that expired in the third quarter of 2016.

The company said the commercial terms of the agreement would be kept private and confidential between the parties.

Farstad disclosed the disposal of an anchor handler yesterday at a loss of $1.36m.
