Shipping investment banker and former analyst Fotis Giannakoulis has joined ABN Amro as a managing director.
Giannakoulis is leaving Fearnley Securities after three years in its investment banking division in New York, where he was initially tasked with expanding its renewables business globally.
He previously held investment banking positions at Poten Capital and Fortis Bank, where he began his career in shipping finance.
But Giannakoulis is perhaps best known for the nine years he spent as an analyst at Morgan Stanley, leading its shipping equities research.
He holds a degree in economics from the University of Piraeus and earned his masters of business administration from Loyola University Chicago.
Giannakoulis also spent two years from 2020 as a non-executive director of Bluewater Acquisition Corp, a Toronto-listed capital pool company that had been on the hunt to identify and invest in maritime assets and businesses.
The Calgary-based company did not end up signing any maritime-related deals but acquired a firm that has developed a solution to help plants kill pathogenic fungi.
