The total remuneration package of ICG CEO Eamonn Rothwell jumped nearly 20% last year to EUR 2.76m ($3.3m).

The Independent daily revealed that the Irish ferry and boxship group's boss received basic pay of EUR 538,000 in 2017.

This was up 2.5% in line with group-wide rises.

But the salary was boosted in part by a rise of EUR 430,000 in the value of a restricted shares awarded.

The former stockbroker owns 15.4% of London-listed ICG. This stake is worth more than EUR 150m.

Net earnings grew to EUR 83.3m last year as volumes increased, against EUR 58.8m the year before.

Revenue rose to EUR 335.1m from EUR 325.4m.
