Norwegian shipping group Torvald Klaveness has expanded its investment team as it bids to grow its businesses.

Former Clarksons Platou Securities partner Goran Andreassen has joined as chief strategic investment officer, while Nadia Naess has been recruited from DNB Asset Management to become chief financial investment officer.

They will work under new chief executive Ernst Meyer to drive growth and development with the aim of making seaborne supply chains resilient, decarbonised and cost-effective.

Klaveness says it has big ambitions and a “substantial investment capacity”.

The group operates bulkers and combination carriers, as well as decarbonisation and digitalisation companies.

Naess has also previously been investment director at Jebsen Asset Management, where she specialised in investment and asset management, with a particular focus on private equity.

She started her career as a financial analyst at Norwegian owner Grieg Shipping Group.

As CFIO, Naess will work closely with the CEO and the board, with overall responsibility for the financial portfolio, free liquidity, financing, and risk exposure.

She said: “With a background as a principal in DNB and from two companies representing a similar group structure to Klaveness, I am pleased to bring a unique combination of experience of conducting financial investments in family-owned companies.”

“By leveraging my wide network in the financial sector, I look forward to working with the investment portfolios of the group to create further value for Klaveness,” Naess added.

New initiatives to come

Andreassen has more than 20 years of experience across private equity, investment banking, and other industry positions.

He was most recently senior partner in OMP Capital and prior to that, a partner at Hitec Vision.

The executive has also worked in managerial and engineering roles at DNV and Aker Solutions.

As CSIO, Andreassen will focus on developing existing businesses, spearheading new growth initiatives organically and fostering mergers and acquisitions.

He said: “It is a privilege to be part of one of the world’s most pioneering shipping companies and to play a key role in the further development of our market-leading business units.”
