Marc Saverys is no longer the top shareholder in the tanker owner he helped start.

The Belgian shipowner owns 15.3 million shares, or 7% of the tanker owner, down from the 16.1 million shares, or 10%, he reported owning last year, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings.

Meanwhile, Chateauban SA, previously the second largest shareholder, has taken an 8.39% stake in the Antwerp-based company, with 18.4 million shares. The company is part of the CLdN-Cobelfret group involved in dry bulk shipping and ro-ro ownership.

Saverys has been described in regulatory filings as Euronav's "principal shareholder" and served as its vice chairman. His son, Ludovic, sits on Euronav's board.

Last week, Euronav chief executive Paddy Rodgers announced his departure from the company in a shock move.

The company made a round of share buybacks the same day.
