Law firm Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) has brought in a China Merchants Commerce Financial Leasing (CMF Leasing) lawyer to expand its operation in Hong Kong.

Guan Jian has joined as a partner on Monday, it said.

He was previously the senior in-house legal counsel at CMF Leasing in Shenzhen, China, having started at Chinese maritime law firm Wang Jing & Co.

He regularly represented and advised clients in complex litigation and arbitration cases in China, Hong Kong and London.

Guan has also worked at ICBC Leasing.

WFW Hong Kong office head Madeline Leong said: “Guan Jian’s background, extensive experience and expertise within the maritime and energy sectors make him a perfect addition to WFW Hong Kong. I’m truly delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

Guan added: “Joining an international law firm with an unrivalled reputation for excellence in the maritime sector such as WFW is the ideal move for me to improve and expand the service I can offer to my clients.

"I greatly look forward to working closely with my new colleagues in both Hong Kong and across the firm’s international network to help expand the firm’s footprint in the key PRC market.”
