John Angelicoussis has returned to Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) to order another LNG carrier newbuilding.

The Greek’s owner’s Maran Gas Maritime arm is due to take delivery of the vessel within the first half of 2022, the shipbuilder said.

This is the fifth LNG carrier order Angelicoussis has placed at his favourite Korean shipyard this year. Financial terms for the latest deal were not disclosed.

With the order, DSME said it had achieved around 32%, or $2.69bn, of this year’s annual order target of $8.37bn.

DSME said five of the six LNG shipbuilding orders it has received this year were from Angelicoussis, adding that the two sides are currently in talks on additional LNG carrier orders.

Late last month TradeWinds reported that Angelicoussis was poised to exercise an option it held at DSME for another LNG carrier newbuilding.

This latest deal now means the shipowner has a fleet of 43 LNG vessels — 29 in operation and 14 on order. Its newbuilding book also includes an FSRU.

Maran Gas has traditionally moved ahead with extra orders after concluding term business for newbuildings, preferring to operate with just one or two open vessels.
