John Angelicoussis has ordered another LNG carrier newbuilding at favoured South Korean shipbuilder DSME.

The contract for the 174,000-cbm vessel was signed on Tuesday and confirmed this morning by the South Korean shipyard.

TradeWinds reported last week that Angelicoussis-backed Maran Gas Maritime was close to ordering another LNG newbuilding.

The Greek shipowner is scheduled to take delivery of the vessel, its 105th ordered at DSME, in the first quarter of 2022.

With this order DSME says it has secured newbuilding orders for the year-to-date of $1.3bn, made up of four LNG carriers, all ordered by the Angelicoussis Group, and six VLCCs.

DSME said it was also discussing additional orders for LNG carriers with Maran Gas, and that additional orders are “expected to be received in the future”.

This has been a busy few weeks for John Angelicoussis’ LNG activities with new charters and an existing alliance bolstered.

JERA, the world’s largest buyer of LNG, recently agreed a long-term charter for an LNG carrier newbuilding with John Angelicoussis.

The charter period for the Maran Gas Maritime vessel is 12 years firm starting from around 2020, with the vessel set to ship LNG from the Freeport LNG Project in Texas, in which JERA participates.

Late last month Maran Gas expanded its relation with Qatar’s largest shipowner, Nakilat, for four of its LNG carriers.

Nakilat and Angelicoussis’ Maran Ventures have teamed up as Global Shipping Co, with Nakilat taking a 60% stake in four Maran Gas newbuildings, two to be delivered in 2020 and the others in 2021.
