Yet another regasification unit has completed its relocation to northern Europe amid a craze for such facilities after the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Excelerate Energy said on social media that its 150,900-cbm vessel Exemplar (built 2010) arrived at the Finnish port of Inkoo, where it is to become the Scandinavian country’s first floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).

“The Exemplar is chartered to Gasgrid Finland Oy for a period of ten years,” US-listed Excelerate said in a post on LinkedIn.

“In addition to providing regasification services, Excelerate’s recently formed Finnish gas marketing subsidiary, Excelerate Finland Gas Marketing Oy, executed an agreement for the sale of commissioning volumes and regasification capacity rights during the commissioning phase of the terminal,” Excelerate added in the statement.

TradeWinds already reported on 20 December that the vessel was due to arrive at Inkoo after Christmas, as states in northern Europe move to secure alternatives to Russian pipeline gas supplies.

The Exemplar becomes the third FSRU to arrive for operations in the region in December alone.

The other two FSRUs were manoeuvred into German ports, where an additional four units are planned to join them.

The Exemplar, which has capacity to supply 5 billion cbm of gas per annum, started its 10-year charter with Gasgrid Finland on 1 October, after the deal on the vessel was signed in May. The unit will be moored at a new jetty near the Baltic connector pipeline.

Gasgrid Finland has been working with Estonia’s gas transmission operator, Elering, on the planned infrastructure for LNG imports.
