A first full LNG cargo for the Philippines is being transferred into the country’s newly arrived floating storage unit (FSU) that is due to berth at the Atlantic, Gulf & Pacific International Holdings (AG&P) Philippines LNG (PHLNG) Import Terminal in Batangas Bay shortly.

AG&P said the LNG was being discharged from the 162,000-cbm Golar Glacier (built 2014) on Tuesday by ship-to-ship transfer into its chartered FSU, the 137,500-cbm LNG carrier Ish (built 1995).

The company — which looks set to become the first of many that have tried to set up LNG import facilities in the Philippines — said the new facility will be “the first modular LNG terminal in the world”.

“Countdown to the country’s historic moment begins!,” AG&P said in a social media post.

AG&P cooled-down the Ish last week. The company chartered in the vessel for 15 years from Adnoc Logistics & Services with AG&P subsidiary Gas Entec undertaking the conversion work on the Moss-type vessel in China.

The FSU will be semi-permanently moored alongside the berth and capable of simultaneously loading from visiting LNG carriers and discharging to the shore.

Regasification equipment is sited onshore.

The project will have a capacity of around five million tonnes per annum and a gas send-out rate of 504 million standard cubic feet per day.

Delivered regasified LNG will be distributed by containers, trucks or directly into the grid as send-out.

Onshore LNG storage tanks are being constructed as part of a second phase of the project.

There have been a plethora of plans to put an LNG import terminal into operation in the Philippines with at least seven projects in the works at one point.

Next up for the South East Asian nation is First Gen’s project for Batangas City.

This project, which is scheduled for start-up this year, will use a floating storage and regasification unit, the 162,400-cbm BW Batangas (ex-BW Paris, built 2009). The FSRU has been chartered in from BW LNG for five years.

First Gen is developing the Interim Offshore LNG Terminal in partnership with Tokyo Gas.
