Shipowner Flex LNG is closing in on spot business for its next-to-deliver, speculatively-ordered LNG carrier newbuilding.

Market sources said energy major BP has fixed the 173,400-cbm Flex Constellation on subjects for 20 to 40 days on an ex-yard basis.

Delivery voyages

No rate details were given, but shipowners pointed out that lower-than-market levels are often paid on delivery voyages.

Flex is scheduled to take delivery of two uncommitted LNG newbuildings this year with sistership the Flex Courageous due out in August.

Chief executive Oystein Kalleklev has previously said Flex has no set chartering formula for its vessels and is open to fixing them on a short, medium or long-term basis.

Flex has five LNG newbuildings scheduled for handover in 2020 with two more due the following year.
